Augmentative & Alternative Communication
Research has shown that using AAC supports the improvement of natural speech skills, and can be a conduit for improving language and communication skills as well. One particular study noted that adult AAC users have demonstrated increased participation in a variety of communication functions and forms and used Assistive Technology to stay connected with the world around them. This is true for adults as well as children. A research review has shown that children demonstrated gains in their expressive language and speech skills with the use of AAC.
